Two days ago I found out that I did NOT get the one job that might have kept me in Ottawa for the year. Yesterday, my gentleman caller and I decided that, despite being a good team, the directions of our lives are about to diverge so it's best to call it quits now. Today, I decided not to hesitate or deliberate any longer. I filled out the SWAP form, paid my moneys and signed on the (virtual) dotted line. I am officially going to be moving to Scotland!!!
The SWAP program offers a lot of benefits and will almost certainly prove to be worth the money. But oh, what a large sum of money it is! Okay, it's not like "first-born son" expensive, but it's a fair amount for someone who had borrow some cash in order to buy furniture from IKEA. And naturally the payment is non-refundable. So unless I'm willing to flush a month's rent down the drain (I'm not) my only viable course of action is puddle-hopping over to the UK.
I have a squillion things to plan and take care of and it would be nice to have a wee bit o' money in my account when I get there, so the next couple of months are going to be nice and busy, in an exciting way.
The point of this blog is to help my family and friends follow along with what I'm up to since I'm too stubborn to get Facebook. Also, it'll act as a nice little travel journal for me. I plan to have so much adventure that I won't be able to cram it all into my own head. Fortunately, the internet is much bigger than my brain, so I'll be able to store some of those memories here. Let's hope I can remember to post occasionally.
My intro pack for SWAP should arrive in my inbox on Tuesday and then it's off to the visa races! Can't wait for the biometric scanning!
'Tis all for now, I believe. I am HAPPY!
